Fruit & Vegetable Market Report – 24th November 2017
So we’re into the the Christmas season now so maybe its time to move on to Prepared Vegetables. We have Prepped Brussels Sprouts in stock all the time now. If you have any large orders of prepared produce please make sure you pre-order with out Tele-Sales team as everyone has the same idea this time of year and its not guaranteed for next day if ordered late. If you want to discuss prices for prepared, just give them a call for whats available and prices.
French Globe Artichoke have been very short this week, there are some Spanish available but they’re not nearly as big. Asparagus is about the same as last week but can spike in price this time of year. Spanish Aubergines & Cucumbers continue to creep up in price, Spanish Broccoli & English Cauliflower are too. There is some cheaper Dutch Celeriac available but not a patch on the French Celeriac and even though it is dearer it is worth the extra. Green Courgettes remain the same but Yellow Courgettes are extortionate. Mange-Toute & Sugar Snaps are still pricey. so too is French Spinach. Peppers remain reasonable for this time of year. Wild Mushrooms are not as plentiful and the Cepes are finished.
There seems to be plenty of Blueberries around so hopefully prices will ease, Strawberries have dropped a little but will remain dear for the near future. We’re on the last of the Italian Grapes before we move over to Southern Hemisphere fruit, prices are creeping up and finding good quality fruit is becoming a problem. Brazilian Figs look OK and are a little easier in price, but they’re not the tastiest. Cherries are still all the money, so best avoided. There doesn’t look like there is going to be any easing on the price of Lemons this side of Christmas and Limes are still expensive too. Dutch Indoor Rhubarb is ridiculously expensive so we’re not buying it at present. South African Peaches & Nectarines are good and available.
